Last year, 2021, after installing the little koi pond next to my back patio area, I was shopping at Ashcombe's in Mechanicsburg. These purple asters caught my eye and I just had to have them! Even though I was 2 days early for the fall sale, she still gave me the fall sale discount! I absolutely love these and the color they add to the yard in season. They are perennial asters and in the height of their bloom time around August and September are one of the highlights of my back yard. There are similar looking ones that pop up around at the garden centers in the fall but not all are perennials, so if you like them, just be careful what you grab. They grow up in foliage starting sometime in spring. I love that they grow foliage earlier in the season because they are hiding the one side of the pond not buried in the ground. I highly recommend adding these to your yard as they are so pretty and are a low maintenance plant. I really would like to buy a bunch more to add to the front of my house for that pop of color when other flowers are no longer blooming. A fun fact about Asters is that the monarch butterflies just love them for their late season nectar to fuel their fall migration!
